We live in Nigeria and occasionally, ok more often than not, we have light outages and the whole place gets creepy dark especially when it happens in the early hours of the morning or night.
One of those light less mornings, Nailah and I were going to my room to get something and she was just over a year old. As we marched into the dark room with her taking the lead and I behind her while striving to get a hold of her hand so she would not fall or trip on something. I marveled at her courage.
I thought to myself "Look at this little girl, marching into the dark room not knowing or caring if something was waiting to get her or scare her in the room". While that idea was running through my mind, something struck me, she did it because she was so confident because I was with her.
While I pondered over the situation, I heard God say to me "I wish you could be so confident in me, I wish all my children could learn to be so care free and trusting, believing and knowing that I am always with them".
I was a bit ashamed of myself because I know how many times I have moved with fear and doubt in my heart considering whether God was there or if he had left me alone.
I guess that is the character of God that David was so aware of when he said "even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me".
My daughter was so confident because she trusts her mum to be there to protect her and let no harm come to her. Likewise, we are God's children and he loves us dearly and truly, that is why he gave up his only begotten son for our sake.
He needs you to believe in his character as a Father and know that no matter what you are going through, what has happened or will happen, He is there, was there and will be there silently watching over you and guiding you all the way.
The Bible in Deuteronomy 31:8 says: "Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you".
Remember this always.
So true, It only means that whenever we are scared of doing something, it is the Devil who doesn't want us to do it. For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.
